From music videos and visual art to fashion and cultural projects, these works reflect the multidisciplinary practice behind Zahir X Batin.
Beside Zahir X Batin clothing brand, Indigo Seven takes pride in contributing visually to local artists sound by directing their music videos. One of his work that stands out was directing Calmate by the artist Fidah.Official in collaboration with McGill University Library who in this song explores the balance between faith and world, and encourages open conversation about the existential questions of life and mental health. Shuhib has explored the fusion of the digital age with imagery from the Shah Nama and Safarnama to reflect the writings and inspiration of the artist’s vision.
Culture is not frozen in the past. It evolves. It travels. It transforms. It crosses borders. It takes new forms. Zahir X Batin exists in that space.
The most recent Music Video was Printemps Perse. Persian Spring explores the geopolitical realities surrounding Palestine and the ways artists respond to violence, injustice and competing narratives in the media. Through visual storytelling, the project examines the role of the artist in documenting and questioning the realities of their time. As the role of the artist is to reflect the time in which he lives, it was important for Fidah to express how he felt and saw what was happening by being on the right side of the history and expressing the injustice and the genocide the Palestinians lived and are living since 1948.
In terms of visuals, Zahir X Batin wanted to remove the veil and role that Public Relation Media plays in visuals in order to de-mask propaganda of a one sided narrative. In this digital time, the role of the Media, journalists and televisions traditional outlets could take part as a tool of war to legitimize or demonize the other. Culture by fusion could also mean to be a micro institute of learning through art.
